Young Fla. immigrants press Rubio on reform
By CHRISTINE ARMARIO
MIAMI (AP) -- Young immigrants in Florida are taking their message to Republican Sen. Marco Rubio: They want a fair pathway to citizenship that keeps families united.
Members of the Florida Immigrant Youth Network stood before Rubio's Miami office on Wednesday. They said they had sent multiple requests for a meeting with him but had not received a reply.
Several students then walked into his office and were granted a meeting with Rubio's regional director, Alyn Cruz Higgins.
Student activist and policy analyst Jose Machado told Higgins they want to make sure no more families are separated. The group also asked for inclusion of lesbian and gay families in any reform.
Higgins said she would share their concerns with the senator.
