Woman dies after driving into canal

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (WSVN) -- A woman took a deadly drive in Lauderhill.
Her car plummeted into a canal near North University Drive and 40th Street.
Rescuers jumped into the water, broke a window and pulled out the victim. But it was too late. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
"We got initial reports from the Hess gas station that a worker at the time saw a car in the parking lot at slow speed," said Lauderhill Police Lieutenant Greg Solowshi, "and it looked like the vehicle was driving over parking stones at slow speed. Shortly after, an attendant no longer saw the car. At about the exact same time, we got a phone call from passerbys that saw the car go in the canal."
The victim was identified as Ashley Farara from Sunrise.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video to see exactly how the accident happened.
