Police search for driver involved in deadly hit-and-run
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A woman was struck on the street and killed, and the driver responsible never looked back.
Anna Mares was hit and killed by a hit and run driver at Southeast Eighth Street and Brickell Drive, Friday.
The woman's niece came out of the restaurant around the corner where they had all been dining when she found her aunt bleeding from her ear.
They said she was unconscious, not breathing, and it was just too late. By the time she got to the Ryder Trauma Center, they worked to revive her as quickly as they could, but unfortunately came out and told her family she had not made it.
The woman's sister spoke out about the tragedy. "I screamed at her, and I said, 'I'm here!' You know? Just so she knew that I was there," said Adriana Mares Cassinera.
"I don't know how anyone in their right mind can do something like that," she continued, "and, and leave her dying in the street."
Police said the tragic accident happened at about 9:30 or 10 p.m. on Friday night.
They said it was a light night in the area, and the restaurants and streets were not very full of people. Still, they believe, some people could be helpful to police.
The only lead police have right now is that the vehicle involved may have been a dark-colored Japanese model vehicle.
They hope to get a surveillance video with an image of the car.
