Former abuse victim working towards change
NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A former abuse victim is on a journey for justice. She's taking steps in the right direction for change.
Lauren Book, an activist who overcame years of physical and sexual abuse stepped into South Florida just in time.
April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Book's Walk in My Shoes campaign walked through Miami this past Friday and will be stepping out of Fort Lauderdale this Tuesday, March 26. "We're walking to prevent childhood sexual abuse," said Book. "Ninety-five percent of sexual abuse is preventable with education and awareness, so that's why we're out here today, promoting. Education awareness, hope, healing and recovery for survivors."
It's part of her annual 1,500 mile journey across the state.
She's hoping this will help change a Florida law to extend victimless prosecution to older children.
