Police release identity of dead suspected burglar
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (WSVN) -- A suspected burglar's plan turned into a deadly decision when a homeowner turned the tables and opened fire on the intruder.
Police have identified the burglar as 31-year-old Earnest Holdman, and he has quite the rap sheet. Holdman has been charged with several burglaries stemming back to 2006 and even did prison time for some of the crimes.
Holdman was shot and killed Thursday morning when he attempted to break into a trailer in the area of 121st Street and Northwest 18th Avenue.
According to police, Holdman was trying to get into the trailer through the roof of the house. He cut a piece of the roof open and tried to take lawn equipment inside.
The man who lived in the home discovered Holdman trying to steal his property and shot him three times, killing him.
The homeowner was identified as 49-year-old Dennis Law and is described as a good, friendly neighbor. "Nice guy, good guy. He would go to work and to church," said a neighbor.
Law has since been released from police after being taken in for questioning.
Police continue to investigate.
