Child in critical condition after near drowning
MIAMI (WSVN) -- An Easter egg hunt went horribly wrong, Saturday. A family experienced a scare at home when a little girl wandered off and ended up at the bottom of a swimming pool.
Easter eggs are still in front of a Miami-Dade home after the Easter egg hunt went terribly wrong.
Loved ones are distraught as a 3-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after she wandered away from her family and into the backyard where she fell into the pool at her house on 36th Court and 18th Terrace. "The family was doing an Easter egg hunt," said Miami Fire Rescue Captain Raul Fernandez, "the child apparently went outside. She was seen for the last time ten minutes prior to when the parents found her in the pool."
Miami Police and Miami Fire Rescue arrived minutes after someone called for help and found her parents frantically trying to save their little girl. "The patient was out of the pool already," said Fernandez. "The parents had pulled the baby out of the pool and our alarm office was giving CPR instructions to someone on the scene, and they were following the instructions."
As she was rushed the hospital, the faintest glimmer of hope appeared for family members fearing the worst. "The patient was transported to Miami Children's Hospital. On arrival, she regained a pulse."
Miami Fire Rescue said the cool temperatures in South Florida could also help this little girl in the fight for her life. "The cold water sometimes has an effect where it can actually slow down the metabolism," said Hernandez. "That's a good thing because the brain needs less oxygen, the amount of time she was without oxygen, it could do less damage."
The little girl is in stable but critical condition.
A neighbor said the girl has two other siblings.
