3 alleged armed robbers arrested
LAUDERHILL, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police and SWAT units have apprehended three men wanted in connection to an armed robbery that took place in the parking lot of a Sunrise Walmart, Monday. The arrest puts an end to a search that involved a high-speed car chase and a search inside a condominium complex.
Authorities responded to the robbery in front of the Walmart located at 3306 North University Drive, in Sunrise, at around 4:20 p.m. Three suspects fled, and their getaway vehicle rammed into an undercover police vehicle standing in their way. Police continued pursuit until the suspects' car was involved in an accident along the 2700 block of Northwest 56th Avenue in Lauderhill.
One suspect was taken into custody at the crash scene, but the other two fled on foot. Police said they ran into a condominium complex called the 2500 Club. Officials set up a perimeter around the complex and blocked off an intersection on 25th Street, leaving residents with limited access to their homes, as they continued the search.
SWAT helped capture the two other men who fled into the building after over an hour of searching it.
Fire rescue units also arrived on the scene and treated some people. A Sunrise Police officer was injured during the car chase at Rock Island Road and West Oakland Park Boulevard. He was taken to North Shore Medical Center with minor injuries.
