Man says he killed girlfriend because she was a Taurus
LAUDERHILL, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have a stunning confession from a 22-year-old man accused of stabbing his girlfriend numerous times and even striking her with an X-Box 360 gaming console.
On Monday, Lauderhill Police said, Darrius Johnson confessed that, a day earlier, he had "sacrificed the victim for the betterment of himself and the victim." According to the arrest affidavit, Johnson went on to say that he attacked Monica Gooden, in her early 20s, from behind, slamming the X-Box on her face and stabbing her "everywhere." He told police that he fought "the victim like he was fighting a dragon" and "felt like a new man afterwards."
"He told investigators that he decided he needed to do the sacrifice based on the Taurus sign," said Lauderhill Police Lt. Mike Butkus. The 22-year-old told police he had to sacrifice her at exactly 6 a.m. In the police report, he said, "I kept on stabbing her, but she just wouldn't die." He went on to say, "I think I killed her."
Mario Langley, a neighbor of the young couple, said, "That's the last thing I would expect from them, from him. He didn't seem like that type of person."
Dale Allen, another neighbor who knew the couple said, "They were like two young teens. They looked like they were in their 20s, and it looked like they were happy. I never saw them argue. "
After the murder, police said, Johnson walked to a nearby apartment building and attacked a complete stranger. Investigators said, Johnson allegedly broke into a home along Northwest 28th Street and 55th Street and began beating a woman. The woman called out for her nephew, Gerald Curtis, who then stabbed Johnson in self-defense.
"My auntie was sitting here, because she come out here every morning," Curtis said, pointing to the screened-in porch of their apartment. "She had a a pink house robe on, so he thought he seen a pink elephant laughing at him. I see this guy throwing my auntie and then punching her."
Curtis grabbed a knife and ran outside. "He came running at me with a chair enraged, so I just went up stabbing him, trying get him to back up off me. His intention was to kill me and my auntie."
Curtis stabbed Johnson several times, but he would bust through the screen and run off.
Police arrived on scene to find a wounded Johnson walking down the street and called rescue crews to have him transported to an area hospital, and when police asked him where his girlfriend was, he responded by saying, "She's in heaven."
Crime scene investigators were still going through the crime scene, early Monday evening. Inside, they describe the scene as a viscous, aggressive attack.
According to police reports, the suspect told police that the better of the two sacrifices would have been his grandfather. His grandfather, according the police report, was also a Taurus. However, he lived in Florida City.
The suspect is charged with premeditated murder and has been booked at the Broward County jail, where he's being held without bond.
