HIV positive man charged with assaulting minors
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- An HIV positive man was arrested and charged for allegedly raping a minor and possibly transmitting the virus.
According to police reports, 46-year-old Kelly Major Cooper is accused of kidnapping a 10 year-old boy from a party in West Park on March 12 and taking him to his son's nearby Dania Beach residence. He then locked the child in a bedroom, where he raped him and forced him to perform sexual acts.
Cooper has been charged with criminal transmission of HIV, two counts of sexual battery on a child, lewd and lascivious molestation and kidnapping.
Cooper admitted to detectives that he has been HIV positive for the past eight years. It is still unknown if the victim contracted the virus.
He is currently being held at the Broward County Jail without bond.
