Police investigate murder-suicide at bank building
BOCA RATON, Fla. (WSVN) -- Boca Raton Police said a man fatally shot his estranged wife and then turned the gun on himself, Wednesday morning.
The shooting happened just after 9 a.m. in a financial services office located in the Comerica Bank building located at 1675 N Military Trail.
Multiple gunshots were reported by witnesses coming from the fifth floor of the building. Authorities quickly evacuated the entire building.
Police found the bodies of 63-year-old Scott Edgerton and Sharon Bellingham, 56. "Our understanding is that there was some type of ongoing dispute between both the suspect and the victim," said Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander. "He arrived here and was able to identify where she was within the building and then went in and shot the victim."
Chief Alexander went on to say that Bellingham worked within the building.
According to officials, Edgerton retired in January as the executive director of a mental health counseling center in Boca Raton.
