Biscayne National Park closed due to nearby fire
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (WSVN) -- National Park Service officials closed off access to Biscayne National Park on Wednesday because of a wildfire just outside the park boundaries.
The fire was along Canal Drive, the park's access road. Park rangers have also closed the Dante Fascell Visitor Center and are escorting visitors out of the park.
The park's Assistant Superintendent Sula Jacobs said, "We are taking these precautions to help ensure the safety of the visiting public."
Jacobs said it was too soon to tell when the park will reopen. "We are coordinating with local authorities and will reopen the park after we determine it is safe to do so," said Jacobs.
The extent of the nearby fire is unknown and the park has been closed for safety reasons.
You can visit the park's web site http://www.nps.gov/bisc for updates.
