Congresswoman aims to prevent North Perry tower closure
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) -- A Florida congresswoman is urging local lawmakers to prevent the closing of a local air traffic control tower.
South Florida leaders toured the North Perry air traffic control tower in Pembroke Pines on Thursday. The tower has lost its federal funding due to sequestration.
Representative Frederica Wilson (FL-D) urged lawmakers to reverse that decision. "The North Perry Airport should remain open and receive a reprieve because of the formula that they used," she said. "We believe to close the airport tower in the beginning, that particular formula was not addressed as they made these decisions."
The Broward commission has voted to fund the tower from the county budget until the end of September.
