Child falls out of apartment window
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- A Good Samaritan took a 5-year-old girl to the hospital after she fell from a seventh floor apartment window.
The victim was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center Friday night after falling from her bedroom window in the 2700 block of Northwest 44th Street in Oakland Park. The child's mother had just put her to bed, and just before 8 p.m. had sent the victim's 8-year-old brother to check on her. When he went into the bedroom, the boy saw his sister walking on the window sill. He asked her to come down, but as the victim was trying to climb back into her bunk bed from her window sill, she fell through the screen and out the window, landing on a grassy patch between a fence, the sidewalk and a lake.
A woman was picking up her daughter's friends when she came across the girl's mother, who said her daughter had fallen from the seventh floor. "I saw a lady carrying a child, and they were running around trying to get a car, so my first instinct as a parent I said, 'Come on, come on, I'll take you,'" said Valerie.
The Good Samaritan told the mother to get in the car. Her 14-year-old daughter called 911 and asked for a sheriff escort to the hospital. The deputy met them along they way and escorted the Good Samaritan to the hospital. "She was talking in like a slur and whining, she was whining. She was saying, she didn't want to go to the hospital she wanted to go to the beach," said Valerie.
The girl is listed in critical condition at BHMC. She suffered multiple traumatic injuries.
Police are investigating.
