Family searches for clues in a man's murder mystery
AVENTURA, Fla. (WSVN) -- Loved ones of a man killed in his South Florida home are trying to keep a cold case alive. Five years later, his death remains a murder mystery.
His family made a 1,400 mile trip to South Florida as the anniversary of his death approached and met the mother of another murder victim with eerily similar circumstances.
"We need the public to take notice. There are so many of us out here," said Joanne Lose. "No information on who did these heinous crimes."
Lose hit the streets of Aventura with friends and family just south of the restaurant where her son Jim Bowerman worked as a waiter.
The 27-year-old was found murdered in his North Miami apartment on April 11, 2008.
She and her daughter are hoping for the tip that leads to a killer. "He worked at the Chili's over here in Aventura," said Lose. "There are no tips, no clues, nothing. We're looking for information. We're looking for anyone who knows anything"
"Not only for me not having him there," said Julie Meloni. "My kids, one of my kids never met him, don't get to actually know him."
Cathy Hamilton-Green went to show her support. Her son Michael Todd Hamilton was killed in his apartment in Coral Springs in July 2011.
7News aired an "Out For Justice" report on the case that remains unsolved.
The similarities between the cases do not end there. "We're both from Michigan," said Hamilton-Green. "Both our children are from Michigan. We even have a grandson named Gavin."
Both mothers said someone out there has the information investigators need and hope it pushes someone to make the right call and like the website they set up, justice for Jim and Michael. "I'm his mother," said Lose. "I miss him like no tomorrow. He was a good, good kid. He was a wonderful young man. He didn't deserve this. They can't figure out who did it because everyone liked him. He didn't have enemies, so I want someone to have a heart."
Both men were stabbed to death. There is a $5,000 reward for information in Jim Bower's case.
