Lawsuit filed against Commissioner Spence-Jones
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones and Former Commissioner Richard Dunn are set to face off in a courtroom.
Dunn filed a lawsuit to prevent incumbent Spence-Jones from running again. The lawsuit argues that she should not be allowed to run for a third term.
Dunn said the District 5 commissioner has already served two consecutive terms and has been compensated for both. "That the law, the charter, which has been written is clear, and that right is right. You can't get around it. The law is the law, so we're hoping for a victory," said Dunn.
Spence-Jones responded to Dunn's lawsuit. "Well, I continue to trust in God and trust in my attorney and know that we will prevail, so we will continue to push," she said.
The judge gave Dunn and Spence-Jones the option of hearing the opinion in court Wednesday or receiving it by email. Both accepted the email option.
