MIAMI (WSVN) -- The Florida Department of Transportation has announced the opening of a new ramp for drivers on northbound 826 going to eastbound SR 836.
Monday, drivers will need to exit about 1 mile sooner, which is just north of Southwest Eighth Street, to access the new 826 ramp. Also, traffic on West Flagler Street and Southwest Eighth Street going north on SR 826 will be directed onto the new ramp, which they can continue north on SR 826. "This going to help the morning commuters tremendously. What we're doing now is splitting off traffic early on into their own separate ramps, and this eliminates weaving movement and tends to lessen travel times," said 826/836 connection PIO Oscar Gonzalez.
The massive $500 million project includes, constructing 45 new bridges and demolishing 20 bridges. "This is a project that's gonna not only decrease the travel times that people experience in the interchange, but it's also going to give them more mobility," said Gonzalez.
In preparation for this new ramp, several closures are in place starting, Thursday night through Monday morning. Thursday, beginning at 10 p.m., the northbound entrance ramp from West Flagler Street to northbound SR 826 will be closed. Starting Friday at 10 p.m., the northbound SR 826 exit ramp to West Flagler Street will be closed. Both of these closures expire at 5 a.m. Monday.
Then, starting Saturday at 11 p.m. through Sunday at 5 a.m., all northbound SR 826 lanes will be closed from Southwest Eighth Street to SR 836.
