Daycare hit by AC thieves for 5th time
NEAR FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A child daycare center has been targeted by thieves for some pricey wiring so many times in a month, it could put them out of business.
The Prophecy Child Care Center, at 611 NE 24 Ave., has replaced stolen parts from its air conditioner a total of five times in one month. Owners fear the most recent crime could shut them down. "I'm very scared," said Pastor Leonard Robinson, Thursday afternoon, just after the most recent theft.
This latest time, thieves took out the entire inside of the unit, and left gutted pieces stripped of copper wiring and piping. Before it had been only stripped of some copper, but now they took the whole thing apart, leaving the facility hard to use in the suffocating heat.
The daycare has already spent thousands of dollars for alarm systems and security. They called the Broward Sheriff's Office. Now Robinson hopes the community can step up to help. "I am pleading to the community to help us to replace this air condition, so that we could have some air for the children that come to be with us all day from 6 in the morning to 6 in the afternoon," he said.
If you have any information on this theft, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
