Woman killed after SUV loses control outside church
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A woman died outside Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church after a sport utility vehicle lost control and pinned her against a wall.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and police responded and worked feverishly in an attempt to free the pedestrian who would succumb to her injuries at the scene, Tuesday afternoon.
According to Mary Ross Agosta from the Archdiocese of Miami, the accident occurred after dismissal at the school.
The driver, 73-year-old Noris Better lost control of her SUV and ended up wedged between a palm tree and the wall that the pedestrian, 27-year-old Catalina Gomez Pelaez, wound up pressed against. Rescuers used a chain saw to cut down the tree to move the SUV hoping to free the victim, but it was too late.
The accident occurred outside St. Bernadette Hall, located at Southwest 112th Street and139th Avenue, at around 4:30 p.m.
At this time, the driver has not been charged with a crime
