Son charged after stabbing father to death
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A son is being held as a suspect in the stabbing death of his father at his South Florida apartment.
The incident occurred in an apartment complex one block from Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Monday night.
According to Fort Lauderdale Police, they responded to a call of a domestic disturbance between a father and son. When police arrived, they discovered neighbors subduing a male suspect, while a severely injured elderly male lay nearby. The victim was identified as Norman Scott.
Scott received multiple stab wounds throughout his torso and was transported to Broward Medical Center where he later died. "This is an absolute tragedy for not only the family but for the friends and neighbors of him," said Fort Lauderdale Police detective Deanna Greenlaw.
Residents in the area are in shock about what occurred. "I'm very surprised; it's a very safe and secure neighborhood," said a resident.
Detectives took Scott's son into custody and charged him with one count of first-degree murder. He appeared before a judge Tuesday morning and is being held without bond.
Police continue to investigate the case.
