Police name person of interest in parking garage vandalism
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have released a photo of a man who they believe is responsible for numerous instances of car vandalism in a South Florida parking garage.
Miami Beach Police believe the man seen on surveillance video the night where several cars were vandalized is Ricky Wells. "We've had a few burglaries in the area and the MO is the same. They slash the convertible top, they gain entry into the vehicle and take whatever is in there, and they leave," said Miami Beach Police Department Sergeant Bobby Hernandez. "Thank goodness we have a video of what we think is a person of interest."
Management of the parking garage that was targeted does not want to releases the name of the garage due to security purposes. According to management, they have had numerous cases of cars that have been vandalized. The vehicles that have been targeted have been convertibles with the soft tops cut open.
Summer Adoue's convertible was vandalized and she said nothing was taken from inside her car. "When the valet brought me my car there was a 2-foot gash, looked like a knife has sliced straight through here and up here," said Adoue.
Wells was arrested three years ago for a similar incident. "His name is Ricky Wells, and he is the one in that video that you see that was provided by those surveillance cameras," said Hernandez. "Obviously, he doesn't live there and he needs to explain to us why he was at that parking lot at that time of the burglary and the method of operation that was used, which in his MO, we arrested him before three years ago."
According to management of the parking garage, the valet parks nearly 1,000 cars for condo owners inside the garage and want the person responsible arrested.
"My deductible is $1,000, so for four days I've been using a rental car. Luckily, my insurance does cover that, but again, I'm at a lot of money," said Adoue.
If you have any information on Ricky Wells, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
