Boy rushed to hospital after burning himself
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police said a 6-year-old boy who was home alone suffered second degree burns on his stomach and chest after he accidentally burned himself, Thursday night.
Fire rescue officials said the victim, who lives in a fourth floor condo on the 4200 block of Inverrary Boulevard in Lauderhill, was transported to Broward Health Medical Center in serious condition.
A neighbor saw the boy walking the hallway, in visible pain, asking for his mother and called 911. "He told me he was looking for his uncle, for his mother, for his sister ... and I used the phone to call 911," said Neil Oliveira.
Authorities said about five percent of his body was burned. He was treated at the hospital and later released.
Officials said the boy's sister was arrested for child neglect. The Florida Department of Children and Families has stepped in on this investigation.
