1 dead, 1 injured in Coconut Grove shooting
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police are searching for the gunmen who shot and killed a Coconut Grove resident and injured another.
Miami Police said two people were shot on William Avenue and Brooker Street just after 1 a.m. Saturday. The gunfire killed 20-year-old Frederick Gibson and injured another person. "He was just sitting on his front porch, him and some of his friends," Yolanda Hawkins, Gibson's cousin.
Fire rescue officials rushed both victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital in an effort to save their lives. Gibson died at the hospital.
Hawkins said her cousin's life was taken in vain by men who, she said, live in the neighborhood. "My cousin was gunned down for no reason right in front of his house, and the boys who did it, they're from around here. We know that," she said.
The shooting has left Hawkins wondering who would do that to someone they said was a good person. "He would go to work and home and take care of his little brothers when he needed to," Hawkins said. "He's just that kind of kid, not a problem child, never been in any trouble."
As they mourn the loss of their loved one, Gibson's relatives ask the public to help them find closure. "If anybody seen anything, please give us a call or give Crime Stoppers, or call police, or anybody you know with any information on who did this to my cousin," Hawkins said.
If you have any information on this double shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
