Abandoned puppy found malnourished, missing one paw
HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- An abandoned puppy found on the streets malnourished and missing one of its paws is well on its way to recovery, thanks to a local animal rescue group.
The 14-pound puppy doesn't have a name, but according to the people who run 1 Lucky Dog Rescue, Inc. in Hialeah, she needs a family who will love her and take good care of her.
"What happened to her?" asked Michelle Rodriguez, who runs the non-profit organization. "Was she stolen? Did she get lost? She ended up on the street not being fed. Who found her? Who did this to her?"
The puppy is being nursed back to good health at the rescue group's Hialeah headquarters after she was rescued Friday night. Rodriguez thinks the gray and white canine is a pit bull mix, but it's not just the pup's protruding bones that worry her. "It looks like they took an object and literally chopped it off," she said.
Rodriguez thinks her paw was cut off maliciously and intentionally. "We did X-rays of her today," she said. "When you look at her feet like this, she's basically missing this entire piece, but it's clean on the X-rays, straight across."
Because of the style of her ears, Rodriguez knows that the animal was somebody's pet.
"This was someone's pet that they did put in a good amount of money to get her ears cropped very nicely," she said.
The playful pup will most likely live a fairly normal life. Now all she needs is an place to call home. "For someone to fall in love with her and want to give her a home and understand that she's going to be a special little girl that's going to need a lot of care," Rodriguez said.
The puppy will be ready for adoption in about six weeks. If you would like to adopt her or contribute to her recovery, log on to 1 Lucky Dog Rescue, Inc.: http://1luckydogrescue.com/. They also have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/1LuckyDogRescue.
