Student arrested after school fight
WESTON, Fla. (WSVN) -- A teenager has been charged after he was involved in a food fight that that escalated into a physical brawl.
It was a senior prank gone wrong at Cypress Bay High School in Weston on Friday. According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the school regarding a disturbance. It started with a food fight in the school's cafeteria and then spilled outside. The incident drew about 500 student spectators.
During the fight, the school's assistant principal observed the 12th grader, who was arrested, throw an object. When the assistant principal tried to stop the 17-year-old student, he resisted by pulling, pushing and striking the assistant principal.
"I've been here for four years, and I've seen maybe one or two fights go down, and today there were three horrible occurrences," said student Sean Friedeld.
In the video, students could be heard chanting profanities at police.
Two deputies eventually took the student into custody. One deputy sustained a laceration to his knee and a twisted ankle.
The teens said about 20 deputies showed up to the school within minutes.
The student, who turns 18 on Sunday, faces felony charges for striking a school employee and resisting arrest with violence.
