Man struck and killed by hit-and-run driver
HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a man who was helping another car on the highway.
David Chirinos' family is devastated to speak to the media. The 43-year-old was helping another car on the southbound side lanes of State Road 874, near the Killian Parkway exit, when he was hit by a vehicle, which then fled the scene, early Saturday.
According to police, Chirinos who was a tow truck driver was getting ready to tow a car that caught on fire when he was suddenly struck.
Florida Highway Patrol said, "Defiantly, we know that the passenger's window is broken, so we are looking for an older model BMW and the possible color is burgundy or maroon, dark in color," said Florida Highway Trooper Joe Sanchez.
Chirinos' neighbors said was a hard-working man who worked seven days a week to support his family.
FHP said they are going to check the SunPass video to try and search for the driver who fled. "My message to whomever it was, it's a matter of time, we will get you, we will find the car," said Sanchez.
