6-year-old gunshot victim expected to recover
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- A 6-year-old girl who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being shot at home is expected to recover.
The child, identified by the Broward Sheriff's Office as Angela Divin, is said to be in good condition according to people at Chris Evert Children's Hospital in Broward General Medical Center. Her mother is said to be by her side.
Divin was shot Saturday afternoon by her 13-year-old brother while the children were home alone, according to BSO.
BSO and the Department of Children and Families are still investigating. BSO believes the incident was an accident.
Neighbors said the kids were outside washing the car in the driveway and were not being supervised. Moments later, neighbors said, they heard a gunshot and saw the 6-year-old being carried out of the house by paramedics. "They just carried her out in their hands," said Justin LaTourrette. "You could tell, right above her chest, she had a hole from where she was shot. There was blood all over the shirt, her eyes were open and she had a deep glaze in her eyes."
The Department of Children and Families said they have had a history with the family. However, it remains unclear what they have investigated in the past.
No one has been charged in this shooting.
