2 injured puppies cared for by local animal hospital
HALLANDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- An animal lover rushed to help two puppies she found all alone and possibly abused.
The 8-week-old bulldog puppies were rescued by a member of 1 Lucky Dog Rescue, Tuesday when she found them on the side of road in Northwest Miami-Dade near 103rd Street and 22nd Avenue. "They were covered in fleas, ticks and they were very pale," said Veterinarian Dr. Jose Barbosa.
The dogs are now being given a second chance. "This is Jack and this is Jill," said Barbosa. "This is the one that went up the hill and broke his jaw."
Jack's jaw injury is too gruesome to look at. He is currently under heavy medication to deal with the pain.
Jessie Hernandez who runs 1 Lucky Dog Rescue thinks someone did it on purpose. "I'm thinking they probably kicked him," said Hernandez. "And broke his jaw or maybe he fell off of somewhere where they put him."
Barbosa wants to believe it was an accident that the two puppies ended up on the side of the road, one with significant injuries, but he knows it's possible someone did this on purpose. "I want to believe that people have better hearts," said Barbosa.
In the meantime, both pups will continue to recover at the animal hospital in Hallandale Beach. Their doctor hopes the rest of the litter is somewhere safe. "If someone is doing that," said Barbosa, "it's very sad. I don't want to believe that this was done on purpose because what can a dog do for people to mistreat them?"
Because of his injuries, Jack the puppy isn't able to eat on his own. "We have to put a tube down his throat for him to eat," said Barbosa. "We're going to make the food liquid, liquify the food so that he can eat."
Jacks sister, Jill seems to know he's hurt, licked his injuries. She's worried about her brother and now the dogs are looking for a new home.
1 Lucky Dog Rescue relies on donations to help with procedures like the one Jack needs to undergo.
In about a month, Jack and Jill will be healthy enough for adoption. They are hoping to find them a good home, possibly even together.
