Pickup truck burglar returns stolen items with note and cash
AVENTURA, Fla. (WSVN) -- A man accused of cleaning out a family's garage had second thoughts about his illegal activity and returned his haul.
Hours after surveillance video of the burglary aired on 7News, the alleged crook returned all the items he stole and then some.
Homeowner Karla Maghonna was stunned. "And I got just amazed because I couldn't believe someone could do something like that," said Karla Maghonna.
A man backed up his pickup truck last week at Maghonna's Aventura home and left with a load of household items.
Police called it brazen. "We're hoping someone has seen the pickup truck and will call the Aventura Police Department," said an official.
Maybe the crook just watches Channel 7 because, fast forward to Saturday, the items were returned along with $50 cash and a note in which the crook apologized saying, "I am truly sorry for the intrusion and wish you forgive me for what I have done."
Maghonna said she heard him return Saturday morning. "I heard this noise of a truck in my front yard," said Maghonna, "and I went to check by the blinds because I'm aware of all the stealing, and I saw the guy from the footage putting back all the stuff he took last week."
In that letter, he said he thought the home was vacant and he recycles metal.
Maghonna said she is no longer upset. "I would like to thank the Aventura Police Department and 7News," said Maghonna. "They're awesome."
