Valls' family donate horse to Miami Police
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Owners of a well-known South Florida restaurant made a heart-felt donation to the City of Miami Police Department.
Felipon the horse is the newest family member of the Miami Police Department. "This horse is special. He has been feed with croquetas and Café con leche," said Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado.
The horse was a gift to police by the Valls family in honor of Felipe Valls' birthday. Felipe is the owner of Miami's staple restaurant Versailles. "I thought it was a really nice gift to give them, a donation in his name of a beautiful horse," said Luly Valls.
Felipe gave the horse one of his own nicknames: Felipon. "Very grateful from them, I mean it was a big surprise. I think this is about the only surprise ... I always find out before," he said giggling.
The donation is a small token of the Valls' family appreciation for the City of Miami. "I admire the cops of the City of Miami that do a great job," said Felipe.
The City of Miami is the only police department in Miami-Dade County that still maintains horses. "We have nine horses right now, but like I said, next couple of years we will be retiring a couple of them, so anyone looking to donate a horse, please call us," said Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa.
Felipon still has to receive training but will hit the streets in a few weeks.
