Police: Death of 1-year-old is a homicide
WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police converged in a South Florida home as they investigate the death of a 1-year-old child, an incident detectives are calling a homicide.
Investigators were taking photographs of the garage door at the home where the deceased child lived, located on the 1000 block of Southwest 150th Place in West Miami-Dade. Authorities had blocked off part of the street, and around 10:30 p.m., detectives towed away a dark sedan parked in the driveway.
According to Miami-Dade Police, sometime Thursday afternoon, the child was found unresponsive and taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center.
Miami-Dade Police units were dispatched to the hospital around 4 p.m. Doctors pronounced the child dead sometime Thursday evening.
Detectives are currently interviewing family members at Miami-Dade Police headquarters in Doral as they continue their investigation. No arrests have been made.
Neighbors described the victim's family as a typical American household. When asked if he had seen anything suspicious at the victim's home, nearby resident John Carlos Reyes replied, "No."
Investigators reiterated this is an ongoing investigation that may take several days to complete.
