Shih Tzu stolen during home burglary
DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida family is devastated after their home was broken into and their puppy was stolen.
The break-in happened sometime between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Davie residence, located on 4200 NW 78th Avenue, on Friday.
"It's crazy, It's crazy," said Sandra Rodriguez.
She said the home that the thieves targeted belongs to her mother and father-in-law.
When Rodriguez' mother-in-law arrived at the home, she saw the front door open and immediately called police. The home was ransacked; some of her jewelry was stolen.
Rodriguez said she was more worried about something that is priceless to her: Cookie, the family's puppy. "She's amazing. She's the best puppy ever," she said.
The family believes the thief got in the home by prying open the hurricane-resistant window with a shovel. The dog was in a cage and the cage was taken.
The family said they have only had Cookie for less than two weeks. "We have gotten really attached so fast, and I want her back for my daughter," said Rodriguez
Rodriguez' 4-year-old is used to playing with Cookie every day. "She said, 'Why cant they take him for one night and bring him back tomorrow?' and I had to explain to her that there's bad people in this world that take things that don't belong to them," said Rodriguez.
The family has put up flyers in hope the thief will return Cookie. "We just want the puppy back," said Rodriguez.
If you have any information on this Shih Tzu names Cookie, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
