15-year-old girl shot, hospitalized
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A 15-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after authorities said she was shot in the chest by one of two teenage boys with whom she was walking around her neighborhood with on Memorial Day.
Broward Sheriff's Office investigators said they are interviewing both 15-year-old boys. One of them, they said, pulled the trigger on Jalisica Williams. "A bullet don't have nobody's name," said Tessia Johnson, the victim's niece. "It scares me to walk around and see this ... I'm scared this is going to happen to me someday."
The victim was walking around with Johnson's sister, Shantoria Williams, and the two teen boys in the area of 1400 Northwest 11th Circle in Pompano Beach, when Jalisica was struck by a bullet. The teen then walked two blocks to a relative's home where they had been celebrating the holiday and sat on a park bench.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue treated Jalisica on the park bench, and BSO Fire Rescue crews airlifted her to Broward Health Medical Center.
While Jalisica's father rushed to her daughter's side, Shantoria was interviewed on the scene by BSO investigators. "That was my little sister in the back of a [police cruiser]," said Tessia Johnson. "She's never been through nothing like this, and then for her auntie, she's never been through nothing like this, so I'm just mad about it."
Investigators said one of the two boys had a gun and shot Jalisica. They were in police custody, being questioned Monday night.
The victim had graduated from middle school three days prior to the shooting. Officials said it is amazing she was not more seriously hurt. "She's very, very lucky at this point," said BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella. "It appears that she's going to be OK."
Despite her injury, Jalisica was able to talk to investigators. Charges are still pending for the boys, but they are more likely to be filed for just the shooter.
