1 dead after police respond to domestic dispute
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A Miami-Dade Police officer shot and killed a man officials said was involved in a domestic abuse incident, Saturday.
Authorities responded to the domestic disturbance call at Northwest 68th Street and 32nd Avenue following reports of a man abusing a woman. "Officers attempted to make contact with the subject," said Miami-Dade Police Lt. John Jenkins.
According to Jenkins, when the officers attempted to arrest the subject, the suspect engaged in a physical confrontation with one of the officers. "A violent struggle ensued with the subject over the officer's gun," he said.
Officials said the officer was forced to discharge his firearm. "The subject was struck and pronounced deceased on the scene," Jenkins said.
The officer involved in the altercation was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police are calling the suspect a career criminal who had an open arrest warrant. Authorities have not released any names.
