Take the train to the Heat parade
With hundreds of thousands of fans expected to converge on Biscayne Boulevard Monday, June 24 for the Miami Heat Parade, traffic and parking are sure to be a nightmare. Tri-Rail is the economical, stress-free alternative for fans who want to beat the downtown congestion and high cost of gas.
Tri-Rail will be operating 4-car trains in the morning and on the return from the parade to increase train capacity. Tri-Rail will operate an additional southbound train in the morning, which will leave the Fort Lauderdale Station at approximately 10:15 a.m. Passengers are encouraged to take southbound trains P611 or P613 to ensure arrival prior to the start of the parade.
Passengers should take Tri-Rail to the Metrorail Transfer Station, located on 79th Street, and then transfer onto Metrorail to the Government Center or Brickell Avenue stations. There, they can board the Metromover and take the "Omni Loop" and get off at either the Bayfront Park, First Street, College/Bayside, or Freedom Tower stops.
There is a $2 fee to transfer from Tri-Rail to Metrorail and passengers who do not possess an EASY Card must pay that fee in cash with $2 exact change. Staff members from MDT will be available at the Metrorail Transfer Station to facilitate the connection between Tri-Rail and Metrorail.
To save time and avoid long lines, passengers can pre-load their EASY Cards with the appropriate stored value over the weekend. Passengers can go on www.tri-rail.com or call customer service at 1-800-TRI-RAIL (874-7245) to calculate their fare. Passengers should remember to tap their card on the validator prior to boarding the train and tap off on the validator when exiting the train. Each passenger 5 years old or older must have their own EASY Card. EASY Cards may be purchased for $2.
Parking is anticipated to be at a premium at some stations. Passengers are encouraged to park at the Mangonia Park, Boynton Beach, Cypress Creek, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Airport, or Sheridan Street stations, where there is more capacity for cars.
Passengers will need to allow approximately one half hour to 45 minutes to get back from the parade to Tri-Rail's Metrorail Transfer Station.
