Thieves shoot woman in hand, steal chain
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- An elderly woman had to be hospitalized after some ruthless robbers shot her in her hand and stole her gold chain.
Friday afternoon Edna Holloman's car, a gray Dodge Charger, stood parked at the side of the street with a door open and police crime scene tape surrounding the vehicle.
It would turn out the 70-year-old victim was robbed and shot right in front Westview Middle School, located at 19th Avenue and Northwest 127th Street, at around 4 p.m. An hour later, police continued their investigation, using stones to mark bullet casings at the scene.
The victim was in the area of the school when the subjects bumped her car from behind, forcing her to pull over. After she pulled over, the subjects got out of the car, approached her and yanked off her gold chain.
The subjects did not leave without further injuring the woman, shooting her in the hand before fleeing the scene. Holloman then called police and later informed her relatives. Ethel Sanders, the victim's cousin, said, "and she had just left my house, going home, and she called me back in a few minutes and said, 'I just got shot, tell Doris to come and get my car and park it in your yard,' and I said, 'Where?' and she said, 'Right up at 127th."
A Good Samaritan rendered aid to the woman before police and fire rescue arrived on the scene. Holloman was then taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Late Friday night she remains hospitalized.
Miami-Dade Police said the suspect vehicle is a red, newer model van without tints. The tag is unknown. Police also said one of the subjects is a young male with a short hair cut. He had no shirt on and red shorts at the time of the crime. The van was last seen travelling westbound from the scene.
