Three-truck accident puts one person in hospital
SWEETWATER, Fla. (WSVN) -- One person was transported as a trauma alert to the hospital after semi-truck collided with two smaller transport trucks Friday morning.
The three trucks were involved in a violent collision near Northwest 110th Avenue and 25th Street, at around 11:30 a.m.
According to authorities, one of the trucks, carrying auto parts, burst into flames during the crash. The collision caused fuel to spill on the highway. Just before the crash occurred, the area had been under watch for heavy rain.
So much fuel spilled authorities called HAZMAT along with the Department of Environmental Recourse Management (DERM) because some of the fuel was leaking into a nearby canal.
The accident also left one person with serious injuries. The person was transported to Kendall Regional Hospital as a trauma alert.
Crews continue to clean up the oil spill. Northwest 25th Street from 107th Avenue to 112th Avenue is closed and will remain that way for a few more hours.
