Police: Father fatally shot in front of son
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for two subjects who allegedly approached a father and son in front of their home and fatally shot the older man, investigators said.
The family of Edelbert Noel is mourning the loss of their husband and father. "He's gone," said his wife, Luce Noel, as she wailed inconsolably.
Family members said Edelbert was standing outside his home on Northwest 147th Street and Ninth Avenue when a group of men approached him. He had just come home from church and was about to take his daughter to work. "I think they tried to rob him," said Luce.
It was at that point that one of the subjects shot Edelbert. "What I thought was that they were firecrackers," said Luce, "and I heard his son say, 'Waaah,' he's screaming. When I looked outside, he was on the floor. He was on the floor bleeding. 'They shoot me,' he told me, 'they shoot me.'"
Paramedics rushed Edelbert to Jackson Memorial Hospital where doctors later pronounced him dead.
Celania Noel, the victim's sister, said she does not know why anyone would want to hurt her brother. "I was outside," she said. "They said that those two people were walking and just looked at my brother and killed him for no reason."
Celania said Edelbert was a musician and that she had last seen him alive on Thursday. After he was taken to the hospital, she thought he had a chance to pull through. "I went to Jackson's Trauma Center," she said. "They don't let me see my brother. The doctor said he didn't make it. Oh, God!"
Investigators were combing through the crime scene for any clues the shooter may have left behind.
Luce asked for the community's help to bring her husband's shooter to justice. "Try to find the killer," she said through tears.
