9-year-old stray bullet victim honored in ceremony
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Community members gathered to celebrate the life of a little girl and other children who succumbed to gun violence.
The ceremony was held at Sherdavia Jenkins Peace Park, named after the 9-year-old victim who was struck and killed by a stray bullet in 2006.
Sherdavia's father honored his daughter's memory by singling out her aptitude for math and art. "Just remembering the fun times and good times eases the pain," said David Jenkins. "The fact that I see the community responding, that also eases my pain."
Sherdavia was playing with her dolls outside her Miami home on July 1, 2006 when she was struck in the neck by a stray bullet, the result of a fight between two men.
