Survivor of deadly shooting shares ordeal
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for four men who allegedly opened fire at a South Florida home, killing one person and sending three others to the hospital, Sunday.
One of the victims, who was later discharged from Broward Health North, said he was playing dominoes with three other friends at a home on Northwest 16th Street and Seventh Lane around 12:30 a.m. when the suspects approached them with guns. "Some men came up from behind and ... they asked to 'give it up,' whatever that was," said 25-year-old Christopher, who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation, "and they started shooting at us."
Christopher said he felt "blessed to be alive" after having been shot several times. "I didn't even get a good look at them because I'm looking at the barrel of a gun." he said. "Assault rifle, the bullet from that came through here," he added as he lifted his shirt sleeve to show his bicep. His bandages marked the bullet's entry and exit points. He then showed a bandage on his left forearm. "Had a .45 cut through here," he said as he pointed to the wound.
Christopher, who was also shot in the hip, said no one expected the gunmen would take the life of one of his closest friends. "Well, he was a good person," he said. "He was the type of person that would give things to you if he sees you were in need; he'd give it to you."
Nearby resident Samuel Jennings heard the gunshots and ran outside to see his neighbor laying on the ground. "I walked over and looked inside the garage and saw another dude lying on the ground, and I was like, 'Wow, I can't believe this just really happened,'" he said. "Walking out and seeing it, it kind of just puzzled me ... someone innocent just recently lost their lives because of foolishness."
The survivors were taken to Broward Health North. The two remaining victims were still recovering Sunday night.
Christopher said he had never heard of any incident like this happening in his neighborhood before. "They just run up to a house and they start shooting innocent people, and killing one of them," he said. "I don't feel safe anymore."
Christopher said he believes the shooters fled in a black Dodge Charger.
