Homeowners face property tax increase
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A day after proposing a property-tax rate hike in his 2013-14 budget, the mayor of Miami-Dade Mayor said he would scale back the increase.
Wednesday night, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced a rate reversal on his proposed property tax hike for next year's budget.
Tuesday, the mayor proposed a 5.4 percent increase with $19 million going to help fund no-kill animal shelters that voters had approved in November.
After getting backlash from residents, the mayor scaled that back to just $4 million, reducing the property tax rate to 4.3 percent.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday to officially set that rate.
