Bimini SuperFast to set sail after passing safety test
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A casino ferry beset by safety setbacks has finally been given the green light to set sail from PortMiami.
Officials said the 1,500-passenger Bimini SuperFast has passed U.S. Coast Guard safety requirements after having failed several emergency drills in June, including a time test to get passengers onto lifeboats quickly during an emergency.
Round-trip fares for day trips start at $49 for weekdays and $79 on weekdays and holidays. Night cruises are expected to begin in early August.
The cruise ship has been nicknamed the "Little Red Ferrari" because it would be the fastest ship in the Americas, traveling from PortMiami to the Island of Bimini in about two hours.
