Beauty salon, paint shop catch fire
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Two South Florida businesses sustained varying degrees of damage Saturday morning when a fire that started at a beauty salon spread to the paint shop next door.
Juan Carlos Enriquez, who owns the paint shop, said he rushed right over when he was first informed of the blaze. "We got a phone call that there was a fire in the store," he said. "We came out here, firefighters locked everything down."
Officials said the beauty salon located next to Enriquez' shop off Alton Road and 12th Street in Miami Beach caught on fire early Saturday morning. The now boarded up business is said to be a total loss. "The whole place next door got burned down to a crisp," said Enriquez. "Luckily, we just got smoke and minor damages inside."
The owner said he is grateful his business still stands. "It could have been worse," he said. "Nobody got hurt, and everything is replaceable."
Enriquez indicated that, as a small business owner, his paint shop is how he supports his family, so he came prepared for the worst. "It's scary when you get here and you have fire trucks and police everywhere, and your livelihood is damaged," he said.
Enriquez said the damage his store sustained is fairly minor but still carries a sizable financial burden. "I'm going to start working tomorrow and cleaning up, and wait for the City [of Miami Beach] to let us start operating again."
Enriquez said, it will take him up to five days to reopen his store. Investigators later determined that the cause of the fire was electrical.
