Boat catches fire, SUV goes into water near Key Biscayne
NEAR KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A boat fire and a sport utility vehicle that accidentally went into the water near Key Biscayne kept rescue crews on their toes, Monday.
The boat blaze took place about two miles off the Rickenbacker Causeway. Passengers on board jumped into the water after the 38-foot vessel burst into flames. A nearby boat came to the rescue, plucking them to safety.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard later responded to the scene of the fire. A Coast Guard boat transported the victims to Matheson Hammock Park.
Crandon Park Marina was the setting for the day's second incident. When the driver of an SUV got too close the water's edge as he was trying to ease a boat into the water the vehicle went in as well.
Officials worked to pull the SUV out. The driver was not hurt, but the vehicle was flooded out.
