Police investigate shooting that wounded 2
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are investigating a shooting that wounded two people and injured two others, including an innocent bystander.
The shooting happened Monday morning in the area of 191st Street and Northwest Sixth Avenue. Investigators said three people were in a car traveling northbound on Sixth Avenue, after leaving a gentleman's club, when a gunman drove-by in a black sport utility vehicle and began firing, at around 6 a.m.
Two of the passengers suffered gunshot wounds and a third was injured. "They advised that they observed a person lean out of the black SUV through the sun-roof and open fire on our victims' vehicle," said Miami Gardens Police Detective Mike Wright.
Rescue crews transported one man to Hollywood Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition. Another passenger was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. The third victim received unknown injuries. "At 6:01 this morning, we received a call of multiple shootings. We ended up with two scenes," said Bill Vanmeter of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. "Apparently, two cars were involved, multiple patients and victims shooting at one another. We ended up with seven units responding."
Detectives said a fourth person was injured, an innocent bystander, caught in the crossfire in the area of 183rd Street and Northwest Second Avenue. A bullet had actually flown through his front windshield. It was slowed by his sun visor but also shattered his side window, covering him in glass. His left ear was cut, but he was otherwise unhurt.
Several shell casings littered the streets where the shootings took place. A window at a nearby dry-cleaning business was shot out as well as several car windows.
Detectives continue to gather evidence and conduct an investigation. "We're just trying to figure out a motive, just what happened. We're trying to figure out if anyone seen anything or heard anything to let us know, reach out to the Miami Gardens Police Station," said Wright.
