Alleged armed robber flees into elementary school
OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for an alleged attempted robbery suspect who gave them the slip after he ran into an Opa-locka elementary school, Wednesday morning.
According to officials, this started as a robbery attempt that ended in a shooting at 911 Baum St. in Opa-locka. Police said the man shot someone in the thigh, then fled into the Dr. Robert B. Ingram Elementary School. The victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
There are 178 students currently enrolled in a summer camp program at the school, according to the Miami-Dade School Board.
The school was put on lockdown as police conducted a door-to-door search at the campus. Police wound up empty-handed in their search, and the lockdown was lifted shortly before 1 p.m.
