Horse carcass found near local business
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- The remains of a slaughtered horse were found in the driveway of a South Florida business, Wednesday morning.
The gruesome discovery was made by a worker from the business located at 5295 NW 163 St., around 8 a.m.
Officials said the horse was completely slaughtered for its meat. "It obviously has been butchered. All the meat is gone off the horse. There is literally nothing left, and the horse is probably about a 5-year-old horse," said South Florida SPCA Director Laurie Waggoner.
It is illegal to buy or consume horse meat in the U.S. but officials said it sells in the area anywhere from $8 to $20 per pound on the black market.
Police are investigating and looking into where this horse was slaughtered. "There's no blood around the carcass, so it looks like it was actually dumped," said Miami Gardens Police Detective Carlton Coleman.
