Subject seen on camera vandalizing cars
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are looking for a person caught on camera keying almost a dozen cars in Fort Lauderdale.
In surveillance video from the Children Are Blessed Learning Center along the 500 block of Northwest 23rd Avenue, a young woman is seen walking up and down vandalizing cars, early Wednesday morning.
The owner of the daycare's van was parked in front of the center and was also scratched.
"Everybody in this area loves me," Crystal Coats said. "For this to happen, it's just like a slap in the face."
Coats is not the only victim of the vandal and was told by a neighbor about the damage to her vehicle. "Somebody knocking at my door asked me could I check my vehicle because their cars-- several cars-- got scratched in the neighborhood," Coats said.
After seeing her car was in fact scratched, Coats checked her surveillance video, which showed a white sport utility vehicle pull up and park in the middle of the road with its headlights on. "It appears to look like a female, around two, a little after 2 a.m. this morning," Coats said.
In all, eight cars were scratched, and residents of the neighborhood think the suspect was searching for her husband.
"It's definitely upsetting," Jessica Rodriguez said, who also had her car scratched.
Neighbors are hoping the suspect will be found before more cars and owners become victims. "Very upset; they want to know who did it because they want them to be prosecuted," Coats said. "If there's anybody that recognizes this person, please come forward, so we could get some justice."
If you have any information on this vandalism, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
