Couple went to Miami Yacht Club day before murder
MIAMI (WSVN) -- People who interacted with the couple just before the deadly confrontation are talking to just one station about what they saw.
A few people said they briefly interacted with the couple Wednesday afternoon at the Miami Yacht Club, just a day before Derek Medina allegedly murdered his wife, Jennifer Alonso. "They were over here," said Bruce Austin as he pointed toward a table at the yacht club where the couple sat that day. "I came over here, because he was taking a photograph."
Photos taken of the couple's experience at the Miami Yacht Club were posted later that day at 4 p.m. on Medina's Facebook page. Austin was interested in one of Medina's photos of a pole with a bird on it. Medina agreed to e-mail him the photo and a day later, Austin would realize the same man who e-mailed him the picture, is now facing murder charges. "It's unbelievable, and then with all the talk about Facebook," said Austin. "It's the first time I've met him, but they seemed fine."
Employees at the Miami Yacht Club also said they didn't notice anything unusual about the couple. "They looked like a happy family," said Elvis Gonzales, who waited on the couple. "They ordered food, appetizers."
Gonzales added the couple spent at least five hours at the Miami Yacht Club Wednesday. "They were looking like a normal happy family, I didn't see anything not normal."
The Yacht club said Medina did apply to be a member, but the board had not voted on his application, so he was not a member.
