4 rescued after hours trapped in elevator
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Four people were trapped in an express elevator in the Southeast Financial Center for several hours Tuesday afternoon.
The elevator stopped between the 14th and 15th floors at the building, located on the 200 block of Biscayne Boulevard, at around 1 p.m. Due to it being an express elevator, there is no opening until the 26th floor of the building.
Just before 4 p.m., Miami Fire was called to the scene after the elevator company could not get the elevator working again.
An elevator was brought in parallel to the broken down elevator and rescuers were able to rescue those stuck by crossing a four-foot bridge.
"We had to put a ladder in to the broken elevator," Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Ignatius Carroll said, "have them climb up, and we had to make a bridge, using ladders, for them to cross over to the other elevator, which was not an easy task. They still have cables and other mechanisms for the elevators. So they had to maneuver their way through and then we lowered them into a working elevator, where we took them back up to the floors so they can be evaluated."
The elevator company is looking into the incident.
