Judge approves Gables trolley depot in Grove
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) -- A judge has rejected a request by some Coconut Grove residents to stop a major construction project.
A hearing was held in Miami Friday morning to discuss the issue. Many West Coconut Grove residents fought the plan to build a depot for Coral Gables trolleys in the middle of their neighborhood.
Angry residents protested the project, calling it a big inconvenience considering it does not even benefit their community. The judge, however, kept the plan alive. "This is a very discouraging ruling for several reasons," said Resident Laurie Cook. "This particular project obviously we find not only to be what we believe is unlawful but also undesirable to us as a community."
Attorney Mario Garcia-Serra said, "We feel we followed the proper zoning procedures all along, and I believe today the court confirmed that."
Attorneys representing the Grove residents said they are considering filing an appeal.
